It’s not a proper birthday without a cake, and Cubs from across Bath have been busy decorating birthday cakes to celebrate 100 years of Cub Scouts in 2016!
In the city-wide competition, the Cubs created their own designs with icing, jelly beans, chocolate and fruit. The cakes will be judged by a panel of Leaders and the winning Cub Pack will receive a gift voucher to spend on outdoor gear.
The designs on the cakes have varied from reading ‘Cubs 100’ to depicting the activities Cubs enjoy including fire lighting, games and camping. Cubs from Combe Down recreated the …
Last weekend Explorer Scouts from Phoenix and Blaze Units came together to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Phoenix Unit, based in Combe Down.
Since Explorer Scouts were started, just over ten years ago, they have been one of the fastest growing sections and a major success around the country. Locally the number of teenagers enjoying the fun, adventure and challenge of modern Scouting has almost tripled in that period. As Scouting strives to be a more Youth Led Movement, many of those Explorer Scouts are also Young Leaders with Beaver, Cub and Scout sections around the area.

Scouts from Combe Down, visited an artificial caving challenge built by leaders from 66th Bath Scout group, at their Scout hut in Weston over half term. The caves were constructed using cardboard boxes, ladders, crates and other readily available items.
A group of 39 volunteers spent more than 230 hours over four days building the intricate cave system which comprised 5 different sections, each with its own theme. With the Christmas Holidays coming to an end, many young people could be forgiven for feeling a bit down about returning to School. But for over 175 Beavers and Leaders from across Bath including those from Combe Down, the school holidays ended on a high with a trip to see Cinderella at the Theatre Royal, Bath.

Over 100 young people and leaders took part in the 2014 Avon Scouts Rifle Club Shooting Competition on the 29th September including members from 10th Bath (Combe Down), 66th Bath (Weston Village) and Phoenix ESU.
The event, hosted at Chelwood Campsite, saw participants compete in a range of shooting disciplines:

As part of their 50th birthday celebrations, Bath in bloom donated seeds to several Beaver Colonies across the city.
The Beavers, all aged between 6 and 8 years old, who are part of the 10th Bath (Combe Down) Scout Group, have been busy planting seeds around their HQ to brighten up the outside and learn about the cultivation of plants. Beavers, whose motto is ‘fun and friendship’ and enjoy a wide range of activities, are expanding fast across Bath.

On Sunday 6th April, young people from the Combe Down Scout Group joined other Scouts from across Bath and converged o n the Longleat Estate for a District-wide Promise Renewal Ceremony and Fun Day. The event was timed to coincide closely with St George’s Day, the Patron Saint of Scouting. Traditionally, on or around this time each year, Scouting members from all over the world renew their promise and the commitment they have made to Scouting and its values.
